Bushveld and a dam below the Spioenkop battlefield
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
Spioenkop Dam Nature Reserve lies on the Tugela River near Winterton and Bergville, below the hill where one of the bloodiest battles of the South African War was fought in 1900. The reserve has white rhino, giraffe, zebra and antelope, with game drives and walking trails, and the dam is used for fishing and boating. The battlefield site is a short drive away, and the Drakensberg forms the skyline to the west.
