Every stay on Spekboom sends a share of the host commission to a named conservation or community cause. This page collects the stays where that link is explicit: you can see which organisation your booking supports before you book, not after.
The mechanism is deliberately dull, because that is what makes it trustworthy. Guests pay no service fee. Hosts pay one all inclusive commission of 12.5%, and a defined share of that goes to the cause attached to the listing. It is not a round up at checkout and it is not an offset bought from a broker; it is a cut of the money already changing hands, going to an organisation with a name and an address.
What those causes do varies: clearing invasive alien trees out of a catchment, running an anti-poaching unit, a village school, a raptor rehabilitation centre. Each listing names its own, so you can decide whether it is work you want to fund.
- How much of my booking goes to the cause?
- Hosts pay one all inclusive commission of 12.5% of the booking total, and a defined share of that goes to the cause linked to the stay. Guests pay no service fee on top, so supporting the cause does not cost you more than booking the same stay elsewhere.
- Do I choose the cause?
- The cause is attached to the listing by the host, and it is named on the page, so you choose it by choosing where you stay. You can also browse by cause and work the other way round.
- Is this a carbon offset?
- No. Nothing is bought on your behalf and no carbon is claimed. A share of the commission goes to a named organisation doing conservation or community work, and that is the whole of it.
- Can I see what the money achieved?
- Each cause has its own page describing its work. We do not publish per booking impact figures, because a number we cannot substantiate is worse than no number.
