Midmar is an Ezemvelo reserve around Midmar Dam near Howick in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, best known as the home of the Midmar Mile, one of the largest open-water swims in the world. A game area on the shore holds zebra, eland, blesbok and other plains game, and the dam is used for sailing, paddling and fishing. Chalets and campsites sit along the water, close to the Midlands Meander and an hour or so from the Drakensberg.
