About this place

Marataba Mountain Lodge is a small, solar-powered retreat set into a hillside above Waterfall Valley, deep in the Marataba section of Marakele National Park. There are only five rooms, and the lodge is reserved for guests aged 16 and over, so it stays quiet: the main sounds are birdsong, wind in the valley and the crackle of the fire.

Each room pairs clean Scandinavian lines with natural textures. A king-size bed faces the valley through floor-to-ceiling glass, there is a wood-burning fireplace for cold Waterberg nights, a rain shower in the en-suite bathroom and a private viewing deck. Rooms have air conditioning, a safe, a personal bar and Wi-Fi.

The shared spaces are built around the view: a deck with an infinity rock pool, a fire deck under the trees and a spa sala where treatments use TheraNaka botanical products. Field guides lead two game drives a day and walks shaped around your interests, whether that is tracking, birds, plants or geology, and guests can join the Miss Mara water safari on the Matlabas River.

Beyond the lodge, Marataba offers a night in the Thabametsi Treehouse, hands-on rhino conservation work from April to September and visits to schools in the Sentrum community. Marakele is malaria-free, and the clear mountain air means the night skies are very dark and clear.

Refunds are subject to the accommodation's cancellation policy.

Note: The 2.5% conservation contribution, payment processing fees, and any applicable referral commissions are non-refundable in the event of cancellation. Conservation contribution fees (2.5%) support conservation and community projects in the destinations you visit. Payment processing fees are absorbed by Spekboom for completed bookings, but cannot be recovered once a booking is cancelled. Referral commissions, where applicable, are paid to the referring party upon booking confirmation.

Payout Protection: Guest payments are held until the free cancellation window passes. This protects guests who cancel within their cancellation window and ensures hosts receive guaranteed payouts after the cancellation period ends.
