About this place
Makongo Hills Lodge sits on 15,000 hectares of untouched, malaria-free wilderness in the Mkuze Valley of Northern Zululand. This unfenced Big 5 reserve spans riparian thicket, acacia woodland, grassland and savannah, framed by the Amaqongo Hills. Wildlife moves freely through the lodge grounds, and every stay is built around twice-daily game drives, guided bush walks and birding, with meals prepared in a proudly local style. Six en-suite rooms and rondavels are arranged around a historic homestead and a central lapa with a communal fire. Rates are fully catered — accommodation, three daily meals and two game drives — and a conservation levy of R125 per person per night supports the reserve’s work, including its cheetah reintroduction programme.

Magudu is a beautiful destination in KwaZulu-Natal, offering visitors access to local amenities, natural attractions, and the authentic character of South African life.
