About Tarangire National Park
Tarangire is the baobab park of the northern circuit, south-east of Manyara, with the Tarangire River as its dry-season lifeline: from about June to October, elephant herds in their hundreds, buffalo, zebra and wildebeest crowd the river and the swamps, and the park holds one of the largest elephant populations in the north. It is also a birding park, with more than 500 species, and its southern reaches are rarely visited. It is often given a day on the way to Ngorongoro, which undersells it; two nights in the south is a different park. It is a malaria area.
