About Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara is a small park at the foot of the Rift Valley escarpment on Tanzania's northern circuit, a groundwater forest of fig and mahogany that opens onto a soda lake with flamingos, pelicans and a bird list above 400 species. It is known for tree-climbing lions, not guaranteed but a regular sight, for large elephant herds in the forest, and for the treetop walkway and the night drives it allows. It is usually a half or full day between Arusha and Ngorongoro, with lodges on the escarpment rim above it. The dry season from June to October is easiest; it is a malaria area.
