Selous Game Reserve

The Selous is the largest game reserve in Africa and a World Heritage Site, some 50,000 square kilometres of miombo, rivers and wetland in southern Tanzania, of which the northern photographic section became Nyerere National Park in 2019. The remaining reserve is mostly hunting concessions and is not visited by most safari travellers; the wildlife, the Rufiji River, the boat and walking safaris and the camps that people mean when they say "Selous" are now in Nyerere. It is a malaria area, best from June to October.
