Nyerere National Park

Nyerere was created in 2019 from the northern half of the Selous Game Reserve, and it is the largest national park in Tanzania, a wilderness of the Rufiji River, lakes, sand rivers and miombo woodland in the south of the country. Its character is the river: boat safaris, walking safaris and fly camping are allowed, which the northern parks do not offer, and elephant, hippo, crocodile, lion and wild dog are all present. It is reached by light aircraft from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar, or by a long road, and the dry season from June to October is the reliable time. It is a malaria area.
