About Samburu National Reserve
Samburu is a dry-country reserve on the Ewaso Ng'iro River in northern Kenya, run by the county and known for the species found only north of the equator: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, beisa oryx, Somali ostrich and the gerenuk that stands on its hind legs to browse. Elephant families come to the river, leopard sightings are reliable, and the Samburu people's culture is part of most visits. It is hot and dry, best between June and October and from December to March, and it is reached by road from Nanyuki or by air. Buffalo Springs and Shaba adjoin it.
