About North Luangwa National Park
North Luangwa is the remote sister of South Luangwa, a wilderness on the Luangwa River with no permanent roads to speak of and a tradition of walking safaris only, from a handful of seasonal bush camps. It holds Zambia's only black rhino population, reintroduced under the North Luangwa Conservation Programme, along with elephant, buffalo herds in the thousands and lion. Access is by charter flight or a long 4x4 drive from Mfuwe, and the season is short, from about June to October. It is a malaria area and suits experienced safari travellers who want the walking above all.
