About Ndumo Game Reserve

Ndumo is a small Ezemvelo reserve on the Mozambique border in northern KwaZulu-Natal, where the Phongolo and Usuthu rivers flood a series of pans and fever-tree forests. It has the highest bird count of any South African reserve, over 430 species, and is the place to see Pel's fishing owl, African broadbill and the tropical species that reach the southern limit of their range here. Hippo and crocodile fill the pans; there are no lions, so guided walks are the norm. The camp is simple, the reserve is a malaria area in summer, and it pairs with Tembe and Kosi Bay.
