About this place
The Alphen sits on 11.5 acres in the Constantia Valley, on an estate that dates back to the 1700s and spent most of its life as a wine estate and working farm. The Cape Dutch manor is a provincial heritage monument, one of the oldest mills in the Western Cape still stands in the grounds, and the hotel counts Cecil John Rhodes, Lord Charles Somerset and Mark Twain among its past guests. Original doors, fireplaces and windows survive inside, hung with a collection of contemporary South African art.
Eighteen suites are spread across the Dower House and the Mill Range. Every suite has an extra-length king bed that splits into twins on request, an espresso machine, a minibar, tea-making facilities and 300 thread count Egyptian cotton linen. Each has a bathroom with both a bath and a rain shower. Superior suites add a separate lounge or extra seating area, and Deluxe suites open onto the garden or a private terrace.
Breakfast is served at la Belle Bistro & Bakery, in a restored Cape farmhouse, or in your suite. Blanko, the Italian restaurant, fills the heritage building, and Incognito is a cocktail and tapas bar with a terrace over the gardens and live jazz on Thursday evenings. There is a heated pool, a small spa with two treatment rooms and massages outdoors, a gym, and wide lawns and oak trees to wander under.
Groot Constantia and the Constantia wine farms are on the doorstep, Kirstenbosch is a short drive away, and the forested greenbelt behind the hotel has trails for walking and riding. The city centre is about 15 minutes by car and Cape Town International Airport about 20.

Children are welcome. Children up to 3 stay free, and children aged 4 to 16 sharing with their parents pay a nightly supplement that includes breakfast, with a smaller supplement for a second child. Up to two children can share a Classic or Superior suite with two adults, on a sofa bed. Deluxe suites sleep two adults only.

Referral commissions, where applicable, are paid to the referring party upon booking confirmation.
