Pumula is an African name for "rest." For lovers of nature, the tranquil parkland atmosphere supports an abundant bird life with over 120 species identified on-site. The lodge is situated between the town centre and the famous "Knysna Heads," allowing for easy access to all local attractions.
The lodge features 5 beautifully appointed bedrooms and can sleep up to 11 guests. Each bedroom has its own private patio overlooking the gardens and swimming pool, and comes equipped with a bar fridge, microwave, and toaster, while a communal kitchenette handles wash-up needs. In the evenings, guests can choose from a selection of fine nearby restaurants or enjoy a braai (barbecue) overlooking the swimming pool. A delectable breakfast can be enjoyed in close proximity to the lodge at popular local spots like the Premier Hotel, Knysna Golf Club, and East Head Café.
Although close to town, it is the parkland atmosphere that sets Pumula apart from other guesthouses in Knysna. The owner is an enthusiastic birder and keen golfer who can advise guests on the best birding spots and help plan a wonderful golfing holiday. The Knysna Golf Course is only 500 metres from the lodge, and a further six top-tier golf courses can be visited on day trips.
The lodge specializes in providing a quiet, serene environment for those seeking private, peaceful accommodation while undergoing treatment or recovery. After living on this property for 29 years, we are still filled with wonder every morning we wake up and look out over the garden.
Built Original house in 1977
I was on holiday visiting friends in Knysna when I was shown this property 29 years ago. It was run-down but I could sense the magic. It was a fair size property (2400msq) completely surrounded by trees. You could not see the neighbours. Just this green 'wall' consisting of a great variety of trees. Being a 'Birder' I was just blown away by the variety of calls. This experience was enough for me to make a life changing decision. I bought the property, resigned from a very responsible career in engineering, and started a new life in Knysna. Best decision I ever made. Met the woman of my dreams a year later. We made many changes/alterations to the property (through the years) and continuously improving
