About this place

Grande Provence is a working wine estate on the floor of the Franschhoek Valley, first granted in 1694. Its vineyards run towards the mountains between old oaks, young olive trees and a cluster of whitewashed Cape Dutch buildings. On the estate are The Oak, a fine-dining restaurant, a relaxed Bistro, a tasting room, a gallery of contemporary South African art and a sculpture garden, all a short walk from your room.

There are three places to stay, and every rate includes breakfast.

The Owner's Cottage is a five-star Cape Dutch guest house with five en-suite rooms, a glass conservatory where breakfast is served, a lounge with a fireplace, a pool and a deck looking over the vines. Rooms are booked one at a time on a bed and breakfast basis, or the whole cottage can be taken for exclusive use by up to ten guests. The Angels Suite is the largest, with its own fireplace, lounge and semi-private garden. Cabernet and Shiraz are ground-floor rooms opening onto a rose garden, and Merlot and Chardonnay are thatched loft rooms with balconies.

La Provençale is a two-bedroom vineyard cottage for exclusive use, with a shared lounge, a terrace and a private splash pool. The Loft Suite beside it, under a thatched roof with its own balcony, sleeps two more, so together they suit a family or a small group.

The Vineyard Suite is a spacious cottage with a private lounge, a dining area and a terrace facing the mountains. The Vineyard Studio Suite connects to it through an interleading door, and the two can be booked together for four guests.

The Manor House, the owners' own four-bedroom residence for up to six guests, with a private chef, butler and all meals, is available on request. Ask us and we will quote it for your dates.

Every stay includes a bottle of Grande Provence wine, a wine tasting on the estate and access to the gallery, Bistro and sculpture garden. House guests can also book a complimentary Riedel tasting in the Jonkershuis, with a guided cellar tour. Franschhoek village is a few minutes' drive away.
