About this place
Avani Victoria Falls Resort sits inside Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park on the Zambian side of the Falls, about a five-minute walk from the rainforest trail. Its terracotta buildings, inspired by Zambian village architecture, are set among lawns, a lagoon and old trees, and zebra, impala and giraffe wander freely through the grounds between the guest wings.
There are 212 rooms and suites. Garden View and Family Rooms are warm and colourful, with carved headboards and views over the gardens, while the recently refreshed Superior rooms and suites look out over the lagoon or the pool, with balconies or terraces and a cooler blue palette. The suites add a separate living room and dining nook.
Days here are easy to fill. Guests can walk to the Falls as often as they like during their stay, and the activity desk books helicopter and microlight flights, rafting, sunset cruises and visits to Livingstone Island. Back at the resort there is a large pool beside the Shungu Pool Terrace, a gym and the AvaniFit outdoor trail with workout stations made from local materials, often shared with the zebra.
The Theatre of Food serves breakfast and dinner, the Shungu Pool Terrace runs from late morning into the evening, and on boma nights the Mukuni Boma hosts a fireside dinner of grilled meats and Zambian dishes with storytelling, drumming and Ngoni dancers. For something quieter, the resort can set a private dinner within sight of the Falls.
It is a good base for families: the AvaniKids club runs daily for children aged 4 to 12, with a playground, crafts, games and nature walks. The resort also supports Pack for a Purpose, so guests can bring school and medical supplies for local communities.
