African Parks is a non-profit conservation organisation that takes on the full management of national parks and reserves at the request of African governments. The park stays the property of the country; African Parks runs it under a long-term agreement, hires and trains the rangers, works with the communities around it, and keeps the revenue from tourism inside the park.
Some of the most remarkable comebacks in African conservation have happened under that model: lions and rhino back in Rwanda, the Big Five back in Malawi, and one of the continent’s great wildebeest migrations restored in western Zambia. Here are the parks, what each one is like, and where you can stay in them.
