About Witsand Nature Reserve
Witsand is a Northern Cape reserve on the edge of the Kalahari near Postmasburg, named for a field of white dunes among the red sand, which "roar" when the sand is disturbed on dry days. It is a small reserve of chalets and camping with gemsbok, springbok and the birds of the dry Kalahari, and the dunes are the reason to come: walks, sandboarding and the colour contrast at sunset. It is malaria-free and far from the main routes, a stop for people heading to the Kgalagadi or Augrabies.
