About Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden
Kirstenbosch is the flagship of the national botanical gardens, on the eastern slope of Table Mountain, and one of the great gardens of the world. It grows only indigenous plants, which means proteas, cycads, restios and the fynbos of the mountain above it, and it is a serious birding site for sugarbirds and sunbirds in flower season. The Boomslang canopy walkway, the summer sunset concerts and the trails up Skeleton Gorge to the mountain top all start here. It is a half-day at minimum and an easy reason to stay in Newlands, Constantia or the southern suburbs.
