About this place
Simbavati Hilltop Lodge sits high on a hillside in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, part of the unfenced Greater Kruger. The views run across the bushveld to the distant Drakensberg, and below the lodge Mbali Dam and the Nhlaralumi River draw elephants and plenty of other wildlife down to drink.
The lodge has eight tented suites, each with a king or twin beds, French doors onto a large private deck with its own plunge pool, and a sala pavilion with a double day bed. The bathroom tent sits behind the bedroom, and a double rain shower on the deck looks out over the dam. Shared spaces include an infinity pool, a bar with a 360 degree view, a boma and a spa.
Days follow the rhythm of the bush, with an early morning and a late afternoon game drive. Vehicles carry no more than six guests. The Timbavati is known for the Big Five, and leopard and wild dog are seen here often. The lodge is built with a light footprint and is fenced around the guest areas with a low-visibility fence that keeps the views open.
