About this place
Tamboti is a small tented camp on the banks of the Timbavati River, near the Orpen Gate on the western boundary of the Kruger National Park. It is an intimate, low-key place where safari tents are set among tall acacias and marula trees, with small rock gardens of aloes and Barberton daisies separating the units and a bird hide and communal braai area within the camp.
The surrounding country offers excellent game viewing. The drive between Orpen and Satara passes herds of zebra and wildebeest, with giraffe, impala, warthog and elephant common along the way, while the route north along the Timbavati towards Olifants is good for lion, cheetah and leopard.
Facilities are deliberately simple. There are two communal kitchens and ablution blocks but no shop, restaurant or reception at the camp, so guests come self-sufficient. The reward is a quiet, riverside bush stay close to nature.
