About this place
Shingwedzi lies in the far north of the Kruger National Park, in the heart of mopane country, set along the Shingwedzi River where large riverine trees line the water's edge. Game can be sparse out in the surrounding mopane shrubveld, but the alluvial plains along the river are productive, and a scenic drive beside the watercourse is one of the camp's great pleasures.
Buffalo and waterbuck graze the riverbanks, while impala, kudu, nyala, bushbuck and the elusive Sharpe's grysbok browse the bush. Elephant, baboon and vervet monkey are common, and tree squirrels are everywhere in the camp. Lion, leopard, spotted hyena and packs of wild dog roam the region, and the open plains north of Babalala are a good place to look for cheetah and the rarer roan, sable and tsessebe.
The camp has a restaurant, cafeteria, shop, swimming pool, communal kitchens and a filling station, along with two riverside bird hides within reach for quiet hours of watching.
