About this place
Satara sits in the heart of the central plains of the Kruger National Park, in one of its richest game-viewing regions. The surrounding knob thorn and marula savanna on fertile basalt soils supports large numbers of grazers, which in turn draw the predators, and the camp is particularly noted for its big cats, with lion, leopard and cheetah all recorded regularly.
General game is abundant: blue wildebeest, zebra, waterbuck, giraffe and impala are everywhere, and rhino, buffalo and elephant are easily seen. At night spotted hyena whoop from the perimeter while fruit bats and cicadas keep up a steady chorus. It is a busy, sociable camp, and deservedly so.
Satara is well equipped, with a restaurant, deli, shop, swimming pool and filling station, along with communal kitchens and a day-visitor area. The Sweni and Ratel Pan bird hides lie within reach for those who want quieter time at the water. Orpen Gate is the nearest entrance.
