Karoo Rest Camp

Karoo Rest Camp lies on the edge of the Karoo National Park, just outside Beaufort West in the Western Cape, where the plains of the Great Karoo rise towards the slopes of the Nuweveld mountains. The setting is wide and open, a land of dwarf shrubs, dolerite koppies and far horizons, and the camp makes a natural overnight stop for travellers on the long road between Cape Town and the interior.

The park has reintroduced much of the wildlife that once roamed the region, including Cape mountain zebra, gemsbok, kudu, springbok and black rhino, while Verreaux's eagles nest on the cliffs above. A network of drives and walking trails explores the plains and the high mountain plateau.

Accommodation is in Cape Dutch style cottages, and the camp has a restaurant, shop and swimming pool. After dark the Karoo skies are remarkably clear, making this a fine place to take in the stars.
