Old Mondoro is the wild sibling to Chiawa Camp, an hour downriver in a completely different part of the Lower Zambezi National Park and a completely different kind of stay. Five bush chalets, all rebuilt in 2022 and each extended by a metre, sit open-fronted to the river with ceiling fans inside the mosquito nets, an outdoor shower and a splash-tub bath, and the famous "loo with a view". There are no rooms between you and the floodplain, and elephants regularly walk through camp.

The camp is deliberately unplugged: there is no internet in the chalets or the main guest area, only an internet lounge if you truly need it. What replaces it is one of the most immersive bush experiences in Africa, and Old Mondoro has been voted Reader's Favourite Safari Camp by Travel Africa Magazine.

Activities run day and night game drives, walking safaris for guests aged 12 and over, boating and catch-and-release angling on artificial lures with barbless hooks. There is no canoeing and no bait fishing, both conservation choices, and the same two-spotlight night-drive protocol as Chiawa Camp. The camp is completely off-grid on solar with a generator backup and is certified Climate Positive. Rates are per adult per night sharing and include all meals, house beverages and laundry, guided activities and transfers between Chiawa Safaris camps and airfields.
