Camp Khwai

Camp Khwai sits on a bend of the Khwai River in the Khwai Community Concession, on the north-eastern edge of the Okavango Delta and just outside Moremi Game Reserve. It is a small, owner-run camp with six luxury tents and one family tent, never more than 16 guests, and it is part of Untamed Places, a safari company that is 100% Botswana citizen-owned and run from Maun.

Each tent stands on a raised timber deck facing the river, with super-king or twin beds under mosquito nets, ceiling fans and an en-suite bathroom with a hot shower. The family tent has interleading bedrooms and a shared lounge, which suits families and small groups travelling together. The thatched main area holds the restaurant, bar and shaded terraces, with a small pool above the river and a fire deck for the evenings. The camp runs on solar power.

Because Khwai is a community concession rather than a national park, guided walks and night drives are possible alongside the morning and afternoon game drives, and the floodplains draw elephant, buffalo and the predators that follow them. Mokoro trips and boating safaris run on the channels when the water is high enough. All meals, local drinks and two activities a day are included.
