Cape Town is not one place to stay but several, wrapped around a mountain. The Atlantic side has the white beaches and the sunsets, the City Bowl has the restaurants and the walk to everything, the southern suburbs have the oaks and the wine estates, and False Bay has warmer water, fishing villages and a penguin colony. Which is best depends entirely on the trip.
This guide compares the areas plainly and shows the stays in each. Table Mountain National Park runs through all of them, so wherever you sleep, the mountain, the trails and the coast are a short drive away.
