Booking Guide: Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife
Hluhluwe-iMfolozi, the Drakensberg and the KwaZulu-Natal reserves: how to request a camp and what to expect
Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife is KwaZulu-Natal’s conservation agency. Its camps sit in some of the province’s finest wild country: Hilltop and Mpila in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi, the park that brought the white rhino back from the brink, and a string of mountain camps along the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg, from Royal Natal to Giant’s Castle and Didima.
This guide covers how to request an Ezemvelo camp on Spekboom, the notice it needs, and when to book.
Choose a camp and your dates and send a request. We confirm with Ezemvelo, and once the dates are confirmed you pay on Spekboom. Ezemvelo needs at least 48 hours’ notice for a booking, so last-minute requests for the same or next day cannot be confirmed.
Ezemvelo charges entry or conservation fees per person on top of accommodation at its parks and reserves. A Wild Card that includes the Ezemvelo parks covers those fees, though not the accommodation. Tariffs are revised every year.
Hilltop and the Drakensberg camps fill up for school holidays, Easter and long weekends, so request early for those dates. Midweek outside the holidays is the easiest time to find space.

Hilltop in Hluhluwe and Mpila in iMfolozi, both inside Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, a Big Five reserve best known for its rhino. Sightings are never guaranteed, but both camps put you inside the park at first light.
