About this route
The Whale Coast is a 100km stretch east of Cape Town where southern right whales come to calve between June and November, and you can watch them from the cliffs without ever leaving land. Pringle Bay and the Kogelberg Biosphere offer fynbos and quiet beaches; Hermanus is the world capital of land-based whale watching with a designated whale crier; Stanford is a foodie village inland; Gansbaai is the great-white shark cage-diving capital and a launch point for boat-based marine tours.
