About this route
The southern Cape coast is the one stretch of the country where a surf trip and a conservation trip are the same trip. Mossel Bay has the point at Ding Dangs and a Big Five reserve twenty minutes inland; Wilderness and Sedgefield have beach breaks in front of a national park of lakes and forest; Plettenberg Bay has Lookout, the Wedge and Robberg, with a seal colony on the walk and whales in the bay from June to November; and St Francis Bay has Seal Point and the run east to Jeffreys Bay. Hosts along the way are within reach of a break and fund the sea rescue stations, marine reserves and seabird work that keep the coast worth surfing.
