About this route
The Klein Karoo is gravel-cycling country: farm roads with no traffic, passes built in the 1880s and a village with a coffee stop every sixty to ninety kilometres. This loop runs Montagu to Barrydale over the Ouberg, the R62 back roads to Ladismith and Calitzdorp under the Swartberg, then the Swartberg Pass into Prince Albert, the gravel-event capital of the province. Ride it in either direction, cut it to any length, and stay with hosts who ride.
