Garden Route
South Africa's classic coastal road trip — beaches, lagoons, and indigenous forest along the Cape's southern coast.
About this route
The Garden Route is South Africa's most famous coastal road trip — a 200km ribbon along the Cape's southern coast strung with lagoons, indigenous forests, and small towns. From the seaside calm of Mossel Bay through George at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains, on to the lakes and lagoon of Knysna, and finally Plettenberg Bay's long beaches and bottlenose dolphins. Easy driving on the N2 the whole way, with detours into Wilderness, the Tsitsikamma forest, and Nature's Valley if you have time.
