A sandstone plateau sanctuary for rare species
Otjozondjupa, Namibia
Waterberg Plateau Park protects a flat-topped sandstone massif rising about 200 metres above the plains east of Otjiwarongo. The plateau's isolation made it a refuge for rare and endangered species, and it has been used to breed and relocate black and white rhino, buffalo, sable and roan antelope. Trails climb through the forested slopes to the rim. Namibia Wildlife Resorts runs the rest camp at the foot of the cliffs, and it is a natural stop between Windhoek and Etosha.
