About Tsodilo Hills

The Tsodilo Hills are four quartzite hills rising from the Kalahari sand in north-western Botswana, with more than 4,500 rock paintings on their faces, some thousands of years old, and evidence of human presence going back 100,000 years, which is why they were inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 2001. The San and Hambukushu communities who live at the hills guide visitors along the painting trails. There is a small museum and a campsite at the base, and the hills are reached by a long gravel road from Shakawe near the Okavango panhandle. Winter is the comfortable season.
