About Seekoeivlei Nature Reserve
Seekoeivlei is a Free State wetland reserve on the Klip River near Memel, a Ramsar site of floodplain pans, grassland and reedbeds at high altitude. It is a birding reserve: grey crowned cranes, wattled cranes and blue cranes all occur, with flamingos and waterfowl on the pans in summer and southern bald ibis on the ridges. There is little else in the way of facilities; the reserve is visited from Memel's guesthouses and farm stays, and it sits close to the Drakensberg escarpment.
