About Mnemba Island Marine Reserve

Mnemba is a small private island off the north-east coast of Zanzibar, ringed by a marine conservation area whose reef is the best snorkelling and diving near Zanzibar: green turtles, dolphins, and a coral garden a few metres below the surface. The island itself holds a single lodge; day visitors snorkel the reef from boats out of Nungwi and Matemwe, which also have the accommodation for most people. It is warm and clear most of the year, with the long rains from about March to May the least reliable time.
