About Masoala National Park

Masoala National Park in north-eastern Madagascar is the island's largest protected area, covering much of the Masoala Peninsula, where lowland rainforest runs down to the coast and marine parks protect the reefs offshore. It is part of the Rainforests of the Atsinanana World Heritage Site and home to red ruffed lemurs, the aye-aye and many species found nowhere else, and humpback whales visit Antongil Bay in the austral winter. It is remote, reached by boat from Maroantsetra, and visited on guided forest walks and kayaking trips.
