About iSimangaliso Marine Protected Area
The iSimangaliso Marine Protected Area runs along the northern KwaZulu-Natal coast from St Lucia to the Mozambique border, taking in the reefs off Sodwana Bay, which are the southernmost coral reefs in Africa. Sodwana is the country's main scuba destination, with whale sharks and manta rays in summer and ragged-tooth sharks in winter. Loggerhead and leatherback turtles nest on the beaches between November and February, and guided turtle walks run from Sodwana, Cape Vidal and Kosi Bay. Accommodation is in Sodwana Bay, St Lucia and the lodges at Kosi Bay, all inside or beside the wider iSimangaliso park.
