Remote Klein Karoo mountains and dark skies
Western Cape, South Africa
Anysberg is a remote CapeNature reserve in the Klein Karoo between Laingsburg, Ladismith and Montagu, reached on long gravel roads. It protects Karoo and fynbos mountain country with springs, rock art and a population of Cape mountain zebra, and its distance from any town gives it some of the darkest night skies in the Western Cape. Visitors come for solitude: hiking, horse trails, stargazing and simply being far from everything. Stays are self-catering cottages and campsites, and the nearest shops are hours away, so bring supplies.
