Johannesburg is one of the world's most wooded cities, and from the upper floors of NH Johannesburg Sandton the view runs out over a canopy of suburban trees. The hotel is on Rivonia Road in central Sandton, a practical place to land before heading out on safari or to spend a few nights exploring the green edges of the city: the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden, the Cradle of Humankind and the Magaliesberg are all within an easy day's drive.
Inside, the hotel is built around a tall central atrium, with 329 rooms and suites across six floors. Standard, Deluxe and Executive Rooms are 32 square metres with a king or twin beds, and there are 35 suites, from One Bedroom Suites and a suite with a private terrace to a 145 square metre Presidential Suite. Every room has air conditioning, an espresso machine and kettle, a flat-screen TV and a bath, and many look out over the city. Suite guests have access to the Executive Lounge on the sixth floor.
Out the back, a family-friendly pool sits in a manicured garden under palm trees, with loungers and the Pool Gazebo Bar for drinks, snacks and salads. Breakfast and an all-day buffet with à la carte options are served at Tradewinds Restaurant, and Faces Lounge & Bar does coffee and light meals by day and drinks in the evening, with a sunny terrace.
The fitness centre is free for guests, WiFi is free throughout and there is free indoor parking. A complimentary shuttle runs guests to Sandton's shopping centres and the Gautrain station, which links to OR Tambo International Airport. The hotel also has 13 meeting rooms and a ballroom opening onto an outdoor terrace.
