Founded in 1968, SANCCOB (the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds) is one of southern Africa's cornerstone seabird organisations. When oil spills hit, when chicks are abandoned, when colonies struggle under food pressure and disturbance, SANCCOB is the team with wet hands and long memory: rescue, rehabilitation, release, plus the Chick Rearing Unit and colony ranger work that quietly decide whether the next generation makes it.You do not need to volunteer in a washbay to help. Book a bed on the False Bay or Walker Bay coast, watch penguins from a respectful distance at Boulders, walk the cliffs near Hermanus, sleep where fynbos meets lagoon, and choose stays that list SANCCOB as a supported cause. Pair that with Hermanus and Benguela Cove nights for whales in season and lagoon birding.Spekboom's job is to make the regenerative part ordinary: request to book, the host confirms, and a share of the booking strengthens the coast you came to love, at no extra cost to you.
