About Meru National Park
Meru is the park where Joy and George Adamson released Elsa the lioness, the story told in Born Free, in eastern Kenya on the plains below the Nyambene hills. It is a park of rivers, doum palms and tall grass, crossed by thirteen permanent streams, with elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard and a fenced rhino sanctuary, and it is rarely crowded. Its wildlife was poached out in the 1980s and restored from the late 1990s, which is its second story. The dry seasons from June to September and January to February are the easiest, and the lodges are inside the park.
