Sutherland is South Africa's coldest town and home to the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT), one of the world's great optical telescopes. Located on the high Roggeveld plateau in the Northern Cape, it offers exceptional stargazing, Karoo hospitality, and dramatic landscapes. Winter brings snow to this remote hamlet, while year-round visitors come for the clear dark skies and peaceful isolation.
