The Cottage Room is made up of four unique rooms, the most special and nostalgic being the old kitchen which still shows remnants of ‘how things were’ mixed with vintage-era pieces, evoking memories and talking points for both young and old. Many a guest has booked this room just for the quaint kitchen experience. The low kitchen doorway leads to small lounge with a generous fireplace, with both the lounge and spacious bedroom opening up onto the elegant veranda that is perhaps Dennehof Karoo Guesthouse’s most striking feature. Sit here day-dreaming of a bygone era or lazily doze on the daybed, while the impressive Swartberg mountains keep watch from their solid base. The king-sized bed can be made up as twin beds and for families of four, an interleading door between The Cottage Room and The Dairy Room can open up to create a spacious two-bedroom, two bathroom unit, complete with lounge, television and kitchenette equipped for light meals.

As the name suggests, this room was the dairy of the old homestead. An endearing feature and focal point is the old wooden stump which served as a chopping block in days gone by. Even with this characterful block, the room still offers a spacious environment, the twin beds bathed in plenty of natural light flowing in from the sunny, private patio. The high reed ceilings and wooden beams, a traditional Karoo feature, add an extra sense of nostalgia to this charming space. Besides charm, luxury is prevalent in the details and the room offers percale bed linen, Mungo towels, bathrobes, air-conditioning, as well as a tea and coffee station with homemade rusks. The Dairy can be booked as an individual room for two, or in conjunction with The Cottage by opening up an interleading door to create a spacious family unit.

One of the original rooms of the old homestead, the Patio Room embraces you warmly with its classical Victorian atmosphere. Gorgeous wooden doors, floors, ceilings and window panels offers a sense of calm and serenity. Garden views can be taken in from the sumptuous king-sized bed out the large bay window, or simply enjoyed from the vantage point of the characterful patio. The room’s crowning feature must surely be the spacious bathroom with its claw-foot bathtub, walk-in shower and alcove shelving, still allowing enough space to perform a waltz for those that desire it. The Patio Room too provides all the luxury touches with air-conditioning, tea and coffee station, bar fridge, percale linen, Mungo towels, and pampering body products.

Stepping into the Stoep Room truly gives a sense of what life must have been like living in this grand old dame in days gone by. The reassuring creak of solid floorboards, gorgeous garden views from wooden bay windows, masterfully crafted panel shutters over lead glass windows, lace bathroom curtains fluttering in the breeze, and the calming space of the reed and wooden beam bathroom ceiling all combine to transport you to another world. Modern day luxuries not forgotten, the Stoep Room offers a spacious bathroom with walk-in shower, a bedroom boasting a king-sized bed with crisp percale linen and indulgent amenities to ensure a bygone era and modern day times meld and harmonise. Traditional thick walls and a stretching veranda ensure the room is steeped in coolth when the Karoo dishes up her hottest summer days.

Both romantic and spacious, the Wagonshed Suite offers maximum privacy and comfort for couples celebrating a special occasion or just wanting to get away from it all. As the name suggests, the original wagon shed was skilfully converted, creating a magnificent space in which the sense of a bygone-era still carries through in the cement screed walls, original wooden ceiling beams and well-thought out décor. Luxury touches are evident in every corner from crisp percale linen and mohair blankets welcoming you on the king-sized bed, to the cosy lounge and reading nook by the quaint fireplace for those chilly winter evenings. The bathroom is equipped with exquisite Mungo towels, sumptuous body products and a generous sized shower. A highlight of the Wagonshed Suite is the private patio that leads to a secluded outdoor Victorian bath.

The Windmill Room is one of two rooms built around the old farm windmill. The generous space comprises of twin beds, which can easily be made up into a king-sized bed on request, pristine percale linen adding to comfort and luxury. The spacious bathroom with walk-in shower is framed by a turquoise door and doorframe, lending a note of playfulness to the space. Every care has been taken to ensure guests’ comfort levels are met and the room is equipped with air-conditioning and ceiling fan, as well as a fireplace with seating area for those chilly Karoo nights. The Windmill Room is adjacent to the Windmill Suite, both sharing a raised patio but with separate seating areas, the perfect vantage point to take in the glorious gardens and majestic mountains.

Perhaps our most romantic room where soft feminine touches and luxurious linens bedeck a king-sized bed positioned within hopping distance of a spacious bathtub, and an oversized walk-in shower perfectly complements the rest of the thoughtful bathroom amenities. The vintage-era kitchenette serves as a tea and coffee station or alternatively the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of chilled wine while playing a game of cards at the retro table, just like granny’s kitchen used to have. Relax in one of the two curl-up-with-a-good-book armchairs strategically placed in front of the wood-burning fireplace or for balmier days, take in the magnificence of the Dennehof Karoo Guesthouse gardens from the vantage point of the raised patio. The patio is shared with the adjacent Windmill room, both rooms having been built around the old farm windmill.
