About this place
In Die Veldt is the flagship lodge at Wildschutskloof — a 2,500-hectare private nature reserve in the Klein Karoo, 9 km from Barrydale and nestled between the Warmwater Berge and the Langeberg.
Built and equipped for proper luxury self-catering, the lodge sleeps up to six guests across three bedrooms — each with a double bed — and is ideal for families, friend groups, or small retreats. The third bedroom is an en-suite extension connected to the main house, with its own private outside shower, bathroom, toilet and office space, and its own terrace for sunrises and sunsets.
The main house offers the same terrace experience plus a fully equipped kitchen, large living area, and direct access to the outdoors. There is no Wi-Fi (intentional — this is an off-grid Karoo retreat); reconnect to the stars instead.
Wildschutskloof is a second-generation family-owned private reserve focused on conservation, with around 20 reintroduced game species and 100+ indigenous plants restoring the natural Klein Karoo ecosystem. Cape Town is roughly 2.5 hours by road. The reserve is best explored on foot — hiking, birdwatching, photography, and stargazing.
Barrydale is a beautiful destination in Western Cape, offering visitors access to local amenities, natural attractions, and the authentic character of South African life.
