Islands of Siankaba

Islands of Siankaba is an intimate tented camp on two small islands in the Zambezi River, upstream of Livingstone and Victoria Falls. Seven tents stand on stilts in the riverine forest canopy, built from teak and canvas and joined by raised wooden walkways and a rope bridge that leave the forest floor below undisturbed.

Each tent has a private deck over the river, an en-suite bathroom with a Victorian bath and a separate shower, and air-conditioning. Six are Luxury Tented Suites with a double bed; the seventh, the Honeymoon Suite, has a king bed. Guests are met at reception on the riverbank and taken across to the islands by boat.

Stays are full board. Meals are served in the main lodge, on the riverside deck or out on the water, and Trumpeters Bar looks out over the Zambezi. There is a swimming pool in the forest on the larger island, a spa and a small curio shop.

The islands carry little big game, so days here are about the river and its birds. The lodge runs sunset cruises after high tea, mokoro trips in traditional dugout canoes, kayaking, tigerfish fishing, early-morning and dusk nature walks for birders, picnic lunches on the river, and walks to Siankaba and the neighbouring villages. Victoria Falls is a day trip by road.
