Founded in 1973, the Endangered Wildlife Trust has championed the fight for survival of dozens of African wildlife species for more than five decades. Through its strategic pillars of saving species, conserving habitats and benefitting people, the EWT is dedicated to conserving threatened species and ecosystems in strategic conservation landscapes in Africa to the benefit of all, achieving this through target-driven conservation action, applied research and sustainable community development. The EWT recognises the importance of scaling up conservation impact through long-term commitments, which requires collaboration between conservation entities, government agencies and Indigenous People & Local Communities (IPLCs). Within its carefully selected Strategic Conservation Landscapes (SCLs), the EWT integrates strategic conservation approaches that engage local partners to create and secure safe spaces for threatened species, facilitate climate change adaptation, expand protected area corridors, increase ecological knowledge and biodiversity data, reduce threats to wildlife, support local biodiversity economies, benefit from innovative sustainable financing tools, and improve the well-being and ecological resilience of IPLCs and all people. The EWT is registered in South Africa as a Non-Profit Organisation (015-502 NPO) and PBO (930 001 777), and the EWT USA is registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit conservation organisation in the USA (EIN 98-0586801) with a focus on supporting conservation and community development in East and southern Africa.
