The Cape Leopard Trust (CLT) was founded in 2004 to protect leopards and the landscapes they depend on. Operating across the Western Cape — from the Cederberg to the Cape Peninsula — the Trust uses a science-led, three-pillar approach to safeguard one of southern Africa's most elusive predators and the ecosystems they shape.

Research. CLT runs long-term ecological studies on leopard populations, prey, and movement. The team has camera-trapped approximately 15,000 km² of leopard habitat and published 62 peer-reviewed scientific papers, building the evidence base that drives policy and field action.

Conservation. Field work goes beyond data collection. CLT has responded to more than 250 human-wildlife conflict calls since 2019, supporting farmers, communities, and authorities with practical, ethical resolutions. Their snare-awareness work has reached every corner of the region — 66 outreaches and counting — to remove this silent threat to leopards and other wildlife.

Education. Conservation only sticks when the next generation owns it. Since 2013, CLT has reached more than 90,000 learners across the Western Cape, distributed over 10,000 children's books, and built a network of conservation ambassadors who keep the work going long after the team has moved on.
