Which parks and reserves are best for the Black Mamba in Mpumalanga?

Hosts on Spekboom have recorded the Black Mamba at stays in or beside Kruger National Park and Sabi Sand Game Reserve. A record means a host has seen it on the property or nearby, which makes these the places to base yourself; it is never a guarantee of a sighting on any given day.

Where can you see the Black Mamba in South Africa?

The Black Mamba is most recorded in KwaZulu-Natal (39% of records), Limpopo (30% of records), Mpumalanga (22% of records), based on 339 iNaturalist observations. 9 places to stay on Spekboom in Mpumalanga have recorded the Black Mamba on site or nearby.

When is the best time to see the Black Mamba?

The Black Mamba is recorded throughout the year, so no month is the wrong month to look for it. For the parks where hosts record it most, these are the best seasons they give. Kruger National Park: Apr-Sep; Sabi Sand Game Reserve: year-round, dry season May-Sep optimal. In the dry months animals concentrate at water and the grass is short.

What is the Black Mamba?

The black mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis) is a highly venomous snake endemic to parts of sub-Saharan Africa. Skin colour varies from grey to dark brown. Juvenile black mambas tend to be paler than adults and darken with age. It is the longest species of venomous snake indigenous to the African continent; mature specimens generally exceed 2 meters (6.6 ft) and commonly attain 3 meters (9.8 ft).
