Designed for JRA Hay in 1915 by P Hill Mitchelson in the Arts and Crafts tradition, with the ground floor in red brick and a contrasting first floor in rough-cast plaster, the house is named after a district in Perth, Scotland, Hay's birthplace. In 1961 it was home to the journalist and historian JP Cartwright. In 1988 Bruce Fordyce and his family moved in. Nine times winner of the Comrades Marathon, world record-holder and winner of several ultra-long-distance races internationally, Fordyce popularised parkrun.
Gannochy Cottage is a private garden studio on the property, hosted by Gill and Bruce Fordyce. It has a double bed, a lounge corner with a sofa, a desk, a TV, a kitchenette with a fridge, microwave and hob, and its own bathroom with a walk-in shower. French doors open onto a covered patio with a table and chairs.
Guests share the garden, the pool and the home gym, and have parking for one car. Wifi, utilities and personal laundry are included, and the cottage is serviced on weekdays. Parktown West is a quiet, leafy suburb a short drive from the Parktown hospitals and Rosebank.
